How to adjust a Daniel Wellington watch band

Most Daniel Wellington watches have no links at all. The mesh strap is sized at a sliding clasp, and the leather and NATO straps come off on spring bars without tools. The one exception is the Iconic Link bracelet, which DW says needs professional tools.

Correction note: an earlier version described DW's NATO straps as pass-through straps behind the case. According to DW they attach on the spring bars, and the page has been corrected.

Adjusting the DW mesh strap

  1. Find the strap tool. DW includes a small strap tool with mesh watches. A thin flat screwdriver works as well.
  2. Lift the clasp. Use the thick end of the tool to lift the locking plate of the clasp.
  3. Slide to length. Move the clasp along the mesh to the position that fits.
  4. Push it down. Press the plate back down to secure it, then pull on the strap to test.

Changing a NATO or leather strap

DW's NATO and leather straps attach on spring bars at each lug, and DW describes the swap as tool-free: remove the spring bars from the current strap, fit the new strap and reinsert the bars. In practice you pull the small lever or the end of the bar inward with a fingernail, lift the strap out, then fit the new one the same way. They are not the one-piece pass-through type that threads behind the case.

Classic and Petite do not mixDW says Classic and Petite straps are not interchangeable, even at similar case sizes. A strap for a Classic 36 mm will not fit a Petite 36 mm. Check the model before you buy a strap.

This is the one DW band with real links. DW's help center says professional tools are required to add or remove links, and recommends a watchmaker. Spare links and pins come with the watch, so keep them.
